Turbo Charge Your CME and CPD Operations Using Generative AI Tools

Journal of CME (01/07/26) Akunuru, Raja V.; Dodgson, Andrew; Milbauer, Danielle D.; et al.

The growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI provide a prime opportunity for continuing professional development (CPD) professionals to develop new skills for enhanced productivity and evolving responsibilities. The technology has affected almost every major industry, including CPD. Indeed, a recent McKinsey report found that 92% of companies plan to increase their AI investments over the next few years. Because CPD professionals already excel in administrative and organizational tasks, researchers suggest that pairing human expertise with AI tools can elevate their work rather than replace it, positioning AI as a powerful assistant that still depends on skilled human oversight. The article also includes three case studies — focusing on digital media management, faculty disclosure management, and outcome reporting — intended to illustrate how CPD providers can adopt an “AI-first” mindset that embraces both the strengths and limitations of generative tools while remaining thoughtful, curious, and compliant.
