The Surgeon (12/23/23) McHugh, SM; Kheirelseid, E; Hyde, S; et al.
This study examined the experiences and perceptions of remote learning on surgeons and surgical trainees during the COVID-19 pandemic. The scoping review included 44 peer-reviewed studies of postgraduate surgical education: 21 that assessed perceptions of a new e-learning tool or platform, 17 that were surveys of surgeons attitudes of remote learning during this time, and 6 that evaluated the knowledge or skills gained through new e-learning during the pandemic. Among the countries of origin represented, the United States was the most common, and general surgery was the most common surgical specialty. E-learning was described in positive terms in 86% of the studies. "Positive e-learning experience reported in these studies may lead to more blended learning curriculums being developed, deployed and evaluated going forward," the authors conclude.
