Examining the Efficacy of Project ECHO to Improve Clinicians' Knowledge and Preparedness to Treat Adolescent Vaping

Clinical Pediatrics (06/22) Oliver, Alexander P.; Bell, Lauren A.; Agley, Jon; et al.

A recent study characterized the outcomes from the Teen Vaping Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) program, which was designed to provide practical education on clinical management of adolescent vaping. Program participants were generally knowledgeable about vaping at the time of registration. However, they said their comfort levels when talking with patients about vaping and counseling them on nicotine replacement products significantly increased by the end of the series. Participants also implemented best-practice screening strategies more frequently at the conclusion of the series. The authors note that the study results suggest ECHO programs committed to improving clinical management of adolescent vaping may boost accessibility of evidence-based care and help to mitigate the harms linked to vaping among youth.
