Digital Educational Interventions for the Development of Advanced Care Planning Skills for Medical Practitioners: A Scoping Review

Researchers analyzed nine online articles published from 2008 to 2021 to evaluate the use of digital educational interventions for cultivating advanced care planning skills. Eligible studies assessed changes in knowledge, attitudes and practice related to such skills. All publications followed a pre-post study model with exclusive online education. Only 33% of studies covered completion of advance care plans or directives, while 78% documented improved knowledge and/or attitudes toward planning. Thirty-three percent noted clinical practice improvements. The authors concluded that personalized education may be enabled using previous clinical or personal experience. "Digital devices can also improve access to relevant information at the point-of-care," they noted.
