Compliance Check: Non-clinical Education and Standard 3

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) offers a helpful tip for those seeking to fulfill Standard 3 of their accreditation requirements. Standard 3 involves identifying, mitigating and disclosing relevant financial relationships. However, for non-clinical education — such as leadership, communication and mindfulness training — this is not necessary. ACCME notes that with no potential for inserting commercial bias toward the products of an ineligible company, Standard 3 can be omitted. Disclosures are thus not required from the planners, reviewers, speakers and others in charge of the content for non-clinical educational activities, nor is there a need for disclosure to learners.
