An American Society of Nephrology (ASN) task force recommends improvements in home dialysis and transplant fellowship training in a new report. ASN said the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the American Board of Internal Medicine requested insights on fellowship training program requirements and procedural requirements for initial certification. The report recommends enhanced competency-based nephrology education; personalized pathways to fulfill career goals; personalized care; procedural training expectations; closing training gaps; promotion of fellows' well-being; prioritized diversity, equity, inclusion and healthcare justice; equal opportunities for all nephrologists; interprofessional and interdisciplinary practice; and lifelong learning. "Leveraging the second year of fellowship to go beyond level-1 competency is the goal," said Mark E. Rosenberg, MD, FASN, the task force chair.
