Applications of Artificial Intelligence for Non–Psychomotor Skills Training in Health Professions Education: A Scoping Review

Artificial intelligence (AI) in health professions education for non-psychomotor skills is frequently being used to assess health professional education programs and evaluate learners, according to research. The scoping review — which was conducted in five stages — identified 103 relevant studies, half of which were cohort studies. Approximately two-thirds of the learners were healthcare professional students, and nearly three-quarters of the studies were set in nonclinical settings. Based on step 6 of Kern's criteria, almost 70% of the studies indicated that AI is primarily being used for learner and program evaluation and assessment. The study authors suggest that further "opportunities to use AI in curriculum design and implementation could include identification of learning needs for training, personalizing learning with AI principles, and evaluating healthcare professional education programs."
