Advancing Research in Health Professions Education Through an Innovative Accelerator Panel

Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions (12/21/22) Kawczak, Steven; Stoller, James K.

Researchers designed the Education Research Accelerator session to further research and participation in health professions education. A panel helped prospective researchers cultivate concepts or advance projects toward completion via real-time feedback to pitched ideas. Learners participated in a virtual format, expanding the session's impact, enabling connections, and potentially fostering other research concepts. The authors assessed the accelerator's results immediately after the session and 18 months later. With the Accelerator, participants' competence in designing education research studies and cognizance of using available resources improved significantly. Long-term follow-up validated the retention of these benefits. "Although further study is needed, the Education Research Accelerator model is a novel intervention to enhance learning, forge needed connections, and increase the sophistication of conducting education research," the researchers concluded, suggesting it could be used in other settings as well.
