ABMS Releases Narrative Review Outlining Evidence of the Value of Continuing Certification

A new narrative review from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) describes relevant research about the ABMS continuing certification program. Specifically, the research discusses how continuing certification has differentiated clinical performance regarding patient care and outcomes since 2000. "ABMS recognizes many factors affect and influence improvements in health care," said ABMS President and CEO Richard E. Hawkins, MD. "However, a compelling and growing body of evidence indicates that participating in continuing certification programs is positively associated with physician competence and the quality of care they provide. As part of our commitment to further research, we have created this review as a 'living' document that can be updated to share additional studies as they emerge."
