Implementation and Utilization of a Web-Based Departmental Annual Faculty Review Program
Journal of Continuing Education in the Health Professions (02/24/23) Mueller, Stephanie K; Pascal, Christina; Spiers, John; et al.
A recent study examined the development, implementation and employment of a web-based faculty annual career review (FACR) program within the Department of Medicine at a large academic medical center (AMC). The AMC had 22 divisions and 1,400 faculty members. The FACR process sought to develop a trackable review of professional goals and obstacles to professional development; enable longitudinal faculty consideration of professional growth; and furnish data for defining faculty needs for developmental initiatives. The study includes case examples of where the FACR data was channeled into targeted faculty development. Those examples included division benchmarking, matching career opportunities with individual faculty and analysis of five-year FACR response trends for departmental faculty development. The authors report that the FACR "allows for systematic evaluation and reflection of professional development by faculty members and their supervisors and allows for data collection and analysis to help target faculty development initiatives."
